IP3 Welcomes Nic Sanford Belgard as New Executive Director

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

A member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz and a descendant of Chinook, Rogue River Tututni, and Chippewa Cree, Nic has spent years building Indigenous power and supporting communities in the fight for sovereignty, environmental justice, and the protection of land, water, culture, and community.

Through his work with IP3, Nic has helped strengthen the organization’s network of Indigenous organizers and trainers, expand nonviolent direct-action and action-skills training, and reconnect communities through organizing, education, art, ceremony, and culture. He played an important role in bringing IP3’s in-person action camps back in 2023, bringing together Indigenous activists and organizers from across Turtle Island for training in Nonviolent Direct Action, Creative Resistance, Climbing, Kayaktivism, and Blockades.

Nic has also helped guide IP3 through a period of significant growth. In 2024, he helped lead the organization’s work on its 4.7-acre property in Chinook Territory, Portland, Oregon, supporting the beginnings of IP3’s LandBack project, Food Sovereignty and conservation efforts, and spaces for gathering and training.

Beyond his work as an organizer and leader, Nic is a dedicated father, partner, and family man. Family is at the heart of what drives him — and his commitment to building a better future is deeply connected to the people he loves and the generations who will come after us. He brings that same spirit of care, responsibility, and connection into his work with IP3 and our community.

At the heart of Nic’s work is a passion for Indigenous sovereignty, collective power, environmental justice, cultural revitalization, and creating spaces where Indigenous people can come together, build skills, share knowledge, and care for one another and the land.

We’re excited for the leadership, experience, and vision Nic brings to IP3, and we’re excited for this next chapter of building Indigenous power together.

Please join us in welcoming Nic Sanford Belgard as IP3’s new Executive Director!

Living in Oklahoma we grow up with a skewed vision of government. These lands have been taken away and re-assigned many times. Indigenous encampments were sprawled across the lands upon European contact. Every township, city and sprawling metropolis was cultivated and...

On The Peace & Friendship Medicine Trail

Over the past week and a half we have spent time amongst our Mi’kmaq elders joining them on what’s known as “The Peace & Friendship Medicine Trail”. The mission of the trip was simple, to stand with our relatives as they honor the signing of the “Watertown treaty”...
